The Deerfield wrestling team has had a busy February! Over long weekend this small, but hardy band of grapplers travelled to Bath, Maine to compete at this year’s Class A championships hosted by the Hyde School. Eight wrestlers competed in the championship with seven placing at the end of the day.
Finishing in third place in their respective weight classes were Blaze Etienne-Cummings ‘28, Matthew Hough ‘26, and DP Pope ’26. Artie Liendo ‘27, and Harry Tran ‘28 finished in fourth place in their respective weight classes. In her weight class, Jian Yeo ’28 finished with a fifth place finish. Rounding out the Deerfield finishes was Jack Zhunio ’27 in sixth place.

This past weekend the six wrestlers who qualified to wrestle at New England’s came away with a finish of 19th out of the 57 teams competing that day. Blaze Etienne-Cummings went 2-2 on the day. Both Matthew Hough and DP Pope had stellar days, and both wound up qualifying for the National Championships held at Lehigh University this coming weekend. Matthew will be competing in the 132 lb. weight class. DP Pope will not be able to compete due to an age restriction at these National Championships.
