On Friday, in their second home game of the season, the Big Green defeated neighboring Eaglebrook School to double their winning streak to two games to start the season.
The squad kicked off its season on Wednesday with a game against Frontier. First half goals included assists and completions by captain Sammy Sullivan ’25, Thomas Unkles ’25, Kayleen Tang, ’25, Jeanlukas Meza ’26, and Hazel Secker ’26. Recording Kayleen’s first career goal and Hazel’s first goal. The first half also featured Brandon Smith ‘26’s great defense, Thomas’s pretty perfect pulls, Jean’s epic roll goal, and Billy’s blocks. The score at the time cap half was 5-1 in favor of the Big Green
In the second half, the Big Green and Frontier exchanged goals, with Arvin Mou ’25, Thomas, Sammy and Billy assisting and completing goals. Arvin was also an aggressive contributor on defense. Hazel threw a pretty pass to Jean to finish the time-capped game for an 8-3 season-opening win.
Returning to the pitch on Friday for a picture-perfect day. Eaglebrook surprised the Big Green with a quick goal out of the gate, but the Doors gave up only two more goals in the entire first half (in a non-timed game, halftime occurs as soon as one team earns 8 points). In the first half, teammates appreciated Julia Horobets ‘26’s aggressive play and desire to get better at every turn, Josh Freedman ‘26’s amazing communication, and the ability of Tricia Arnaiz ’25, Yoonsa Lee ’25, and Abby McCaskey ’27 to consistently utilize open space. Josh, Zohan Subhash ’26, Thomas Unkles ’25, Yoonsa, Abby, Jeanlukas Meza ’26, and Captains Sammy Sullivan ’25 and Elena Tskhvitaria ’25 made our assists and goal completion catches. Highlights of the first half were a great snag by Elena, and an awesome Callahan by Sammy!
Three members of the class or ’26, Brandon Smith, Zohan Subhash, and Hazel Secker, added their names to the list of those who assisted or completed goals this game. At the end of the game, the Big Green secured a 15-8 victory and improved their early season record to 2-0.
The squad will return to action against Pomfret on the road on Saturday.
