Deerfield Academy’s swim and dive teams delivered stellar performances at the New England Prep School Swim and Dive Championships on March 8-9 at Hotchkiss School. Competing against some of the New England’s best talent, the boys’ and girls’ teams earned impressive finishes, with the girls placing 4th and the boys finishing 6th overall. With 13 teams swimming, competition was fierce.
The day began with a relay, where Deerfield swimmers immediately made their presence felt. The girls’ 200 Medley Relay team earned a 4th p
lace finish with a time of 1:51.84, setting a solid foundation for the meet. The boys followed up with a strong 3rd place performance and a time of 1:34.51. As the individual events unfolded, Deerfield swimmers continued to impress.
For the boys, Edwin Chu ‘25 swan to two 5th place finishes for the Big Green in the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Giulio Migliarina ‘25 had a great day placing 2nd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 49.10 and placing 3rd in the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.78. Migliarina earned All-American consideration for these efforts. Leon Kong ‘25 capped off the individual performances with a striking 3rd place finish in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 57.35.
For the girls, Olivia Smit ‘25 claimed 3rd and 4th place in the 100 Freestyle and the 50 Freestyle respectively. Sophia Gao ‘26 swam an incredible 100 Breaststroke to win 1st place with a time of 1:03.84 and an All-American consideration. She continued her strong showing placing 4th in the 200 IM with Jane Bannon ‘26 not far behind in 6th. The championships concluded with relay events, where the Deerfield girls’ Freestyle Relay Team obtained 4th place with a time of 3:37.18.
The NEPSAC Swim and Dive Championships marked the conclusion to a fantastic season for Deerfield’s swim teams. In the team standings, Deerfield’s girls’ team finished 4th with 217 points and the boys’ team finished 6th with 189 points. Both teams showcased their strength, enthusiasm, and determination throughout the season. The accomplishments at this championship are just part of the reflection of the progress made throughout the year.
