Softball Starts Season with a Bang

After a rain delay postponed their opening game against NMH, Deerfield’s softball team was more than ready to take the field for their long-awaited season opener against Stoneleigh Burnham. The Big Green came out fired up, determined to make their mark early in the season.

Deerfield started in the field and wasted no time showcasing their refined defensive strength. The team quickly shut out Stoneleigh down in the first inning, retiring three batters in quick succession. A highlight came from Lexi Rohan ‘25, who made an incredible barehanded grab on the very first ball in play. She swiftly fired a clean throw to first baseman Ella Moriarty ‘25 for the out, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

When it was Deerfield’s turn to bat, the offense was equally as strong. Maggie Garbarino ‘27 led the charge, going 3-for-3 on the day and starting the game with a solid single to left field. The Big Green offense was firing on all cylinders. Haley Abraham ‘25 contributed a few singles and a deep double to left-center field. Jian Yeo ‘28 had a stellar day at the plate piling on three singles. By the end of the third inning, Deerfield had built an overwhelming 21-0 lead to secure the win!

On the mound, Nicole Lefavour ‘27 was in control. Lefavour was dominant, striking out four batters over three innings. Her impressive performance on the mound helped Deerfield cruise through the game, and the Big Green finished with a huge victory. In addition to her pitching, Lefavour contributed offensively, adding two hard-hit singles to the team’s growing tally of hits.

With an exciting opening win, Deerfield has set a solid foundation for the season. The team will look to build on this performance as they continue to develop and strengthen their game. The softball team will travel to Worcester Academy on Wednesday for their next game, aiming to keep the momentum going. They will be back at home facing their rival Choate on Saturday.

Congratulations to the team on a great start to the 2025 season!

Go Big Green!
