Playoff Run Continues; Boys & Girls Hockey Host Semifinals!

On Wednesday, Deerfield hosted the quarterfinals of the NEPSAC Championship for both the girls’ and boys’ ice hockey teams. The back-to-back games were electrifying and the student body exploded with overwhelming support.

In the opening match against #7 Milton Academy, the girls put up a resilient fight pulling the game into overtime at 2-2. Giving it all they had, Big Green was able to find the net one last time to seal the win. This tremendous victory takes Deerfield to Saturday’s semifinal game here they will host #6 Kent. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 12:00 pm on March 8, 2025.

The energy from the first game remained high as the boys’ game began. Big Green faced #8 Nobles & Greenough School. Deerfield came out dominant, Ben Paterson ‘25 getting the team’s first goal in the first period. Goalie Elliot Lennon ‘26 made some game changing saves, holding Nobles to one goal, while his teammates worked to bump up the score. Nathan Watson ‘26, Oliver Duininck ‘25, and Cam Umlah ‘25 each secured a goal to fortify the 4-1 win. The boys will be back on the ice on Saturday March 8 at 3pm. They will be competing against #4 Cushing Academy.

The Deerfield boys’ and girls’ varsity hockey teams entered their tournaments ranking 1 and 2 respectively, after the regular season. Looking back in the history books, Deerfield’s last NEPSAC ice hockey tournament victory was in 2003 for the boys and 2001 for the girls. After a strong start to the tournaments, both teams are now looking to make history with another shot at the championship.
