On Saturday, the Big Green winter regular season schedule concluded and three teams – boys varsity basketball, girls varsity hockey and boys varsity hockey – qualified for the NEPSAC Championship Tournament.
The boys varsity basketball team earned the #3 seed in the NEPSAC Championship Class A Tournament with a season record of 17-8 and concluded their season on a two-game winning streak defeating both Choate and St. Paul’s. This marks the first time in program history that they have qualified for the Class A post-season. The Big Green will host #6 Dexter-Southfield this Wednesday, March 4 in Quarterfinal action. Tip-off is set for 4:30pm in the Class of 1953 gym.
On the ice, the girls varsity hockey team secured the #6 spot in the NEPSAC Championship Chuck Vernon (Elite) Championship Tournament. The Big Green concluded their regular season at home in the Class of 1993 Rink with a thrilling 2-1 (OT) victory over visiting Loomis Chaffee to extend their regular season record to 19-4-2. This Wednesday, March 4, as the #6 seed, the Big Green will travel to #3 Williston to face-off against the Wildcats in the tournament opening quarterfinal match-up. The puck drops at Williston’s Lossone Arena at 4:15pm.
The boys varsity hockey team will extend their season as the #7 seed in the NEPSAC Championship Martin/Earl (Large School) Championship Tournament. The Big Green will return to #2 Cushing to face-off against the Penguins in quarterfinal action on Wednesday, March 4. The puck drops at 3:15pm. In mid-January, these two teams faced off against each other which resulted in a 1-1 tie. The Big Green will look extend their season and improve their record (11-11-3) this Wednesday in Ashburnham versus Cushing.
