The Deerfield Academy girls varsity squash team has once again proven its excellence on the court, securing an impressive 4th place finish in the New England Championships. The competition was hosted at home in Deerfield, with the team facing off against some of the top NEPSAC squash programs.
Deerfield’s first match and one of the most exciting was against Tabor Academy. The team triumphed over Tabor with a close 4-3 victory. The matches were long and each player showed incredible endurance and determination. Grace Lodge secured a huge 3-1 win in a match that extended deep into the points. Kate Chorske also delivered an intense 3-2 victory, exhibiting her resilience under pressure. Leisel Stitch and Nicole Lefavour each won their matches 3-2 and 3-1, respectively.
The next match against Hotchkiss proved to be a tougher challenge. Despite their best efforts, the team fell 1-6. Lodge continued to shine winning her hard-fought match 3-1. The team kept their heads up displaying great sportsmanship and maintained focus on the upcoming match.
In their final match of the tournament, Deerfield competed against Andover. It was a nail-biting encounter with each team fighting hard for every point, but Andover edged ahead to win 4-3. Chorske delivered a thrilling 3-2 victory, again showing her diligence and skill under pressure. Lodge gave a determined effort but ultimately fell 2-3 in a challenging battle.
As the season comes to an end, the Deerfield Academy girls squash team reflects on an exceptional year, finishing with an outstanding 8-2 record and a 4th place finish at NE Championships. Throughout the season, the team demonstrated amazing skill, hard work, and teamwork. The experiences and growth they’ve gained this season will be invaluable as they look ahead to future seasons. We can’t wait for next season!
