Girls Basketball Earns Home Court Victory; Boys Basketball Comes from Behind in Thriller Win

On Saturday, the girls basketball team got off to a hot start against Hotchkiss and never looked back. Deerfield was able to generate a lot of fast break points off of steals from their high pressure defense. Guards Ryan Rodgers ’27, Rose Manning ’26, and Sally Dance ’29 were relentless in their pursuit of the ball, which allowed for Sophie Kamil ’26 and Evelyn Kunde ’26 to finish the transitional opportunities.  Despite Hotchkiss closing the margin at the beginning of the 4th quarter, the home team was able to put away some key free throws to seal the game by a score of 53-38.

The girls will look to carry this momentum into this week when they host Williston on Wednesday, February 4 at 2pm.

On Friday on the Class of 1953 court, the boys basketball team fell behind early to visiting Willison and trailed by 15 points at the half. An inspiring half-time speech by senior Gavin Jeffries helped propel the Big Green to a second half lead and game victory. The Big Green sealed the game on a clutch three-pointer from senior Elijah Webb and a strong rebound from junior Teddy Cyr. At the final whistle, the Big Green were ahead 62-56 for the victory.

The Big Green followed up on Saturday with another win, this time on the road at Belmont Hill to extend their current winning streak to two-games and improve their season record to 11-5-0 overall.

The team returns to the court this Wednesday against Berkshire School. Tip off is set for 4pm.

Go Big Green!
