Doors of the Week

Congratulations to our first spring 2026 Doors of the Week!

Varsity Softball: Kiley Kinchla ’28
Kiley Kinchla was the door shout out 6 rbis -Hr and stand up triple in the Big Green’s home opener victory over NMH!

Varsity Baseball: Avery Powers ’27
The Varsity Baseball Door of the week this week is Avery Powers. The junior Left Handed Pitcher got the start on the mound to open up our season against a very strong Millbrook team. Avery threw 4 and 2/3rds innings giving up only one run and earning the win. On Wednesday in front of 20 + MLB scouts Avery pitched a stellar 4 innings of relief against Vermont Academy striking out 6 and holding them to zero runs allowing for Deerfield to earn a come from behind win. Powers has been terrific to start the season demonstrating the ability to consistently throw three different pitches for strikes!

Girls Varsity Tennis: Blake Coleman ’27
Blake has been an exemplary teammate, she works as hard in practice as anyone on the team and always brings a positive attitude that lifts the energy of the everyone around her.  She is dedicated to improvement and handles easy moments and difficult ones with grace and perspective. Blake has helped shape our team culture as we begin our season.

Dance: Louis Calderwood ’27 and Jeanlukas Meza ’26
Louis and Jean were instrumental in preparing for our trip to Westover this past Sunday, March 29th. 26 DA dancers attended a Dance Festival at Westover with Hotchkiss, Kent, Loomis, Pomfret, Taft, Westminster, and Westover. We transported 15 chairs for the performance of Letting Go, and Jean and Louis single handedly loaded up my car and then the bus with all 15 chairs, Costume garment bags, and other miscellaneous items to bring on the trip. Neither of them were performing in the pieces that required all of this gear but they selflessly stepped forward to lend a hand when it was needed. I am very grateful for their dedication and support of their fellow dancers.

Theatre: Gershom Munene ’27
Gershom has been a yes-man since the start of the production. He has quickly taken to his role, memorizing his lines within the first week, and he has been willing to go with the flow and adjust as need be. He also was the first to get laughs from the cast in our dramatic comedy, setting the precedent for how humor can come across in our show.

Girls Water Polo: Sophia Gao ’26
Girls’ Water Polo DOTW is Sophia Gao. In these first weeks of the season, Sophia has stepped strongly into her role as Captain, leading the offense with strong, decisive play and excellent collaboration. In our first game against Exeter she lead with four goals scored. During practices, Sophia supports her teammates through clear and patient teaching and modeling, truly exemplifying what is means to be a Door!

Boys Varsity Track & Field: Oscar Sanford ’26 and Jaydon Hierro Komarnicki ’26
The boys Track & Field team has experienced excellent senior leadership to this point in the spring. Oscar Sanford and Jaydon Hierro Komarnicki stand out for the enthusiasm with which they have approached their work with younger athletes. They have showed up each day with high energy and strong spirit, matching the early weather and setting a strong tone for the team culture.

Boys JV Lacrosse: James Bellig ’27
The Boy’s JV Lacrosse Team nominates James Bellig as our 1st DOTW. James volunteered to “try” his luck at face-offs when a player was needed, having no prior experience. In his first game against Brunswick this past Saturday, he did a good job and won a few face-offs. On Wednesday against Avon Old Farms School, he turned in a very formidable performance with over 10 wins and a number of clamps that turned into fast-breaks and a shot on goal. Congratulations James….keep on winning those face-offs !

Boys Varsity Tennis: Gunter Weldon ’27
Gunter Weldon is the boys varsity tennis DOTW. The junior captain started the season strong with a repeat doubles title at the Kingswood Oxford Invitational Tennis Tournament, finalist in the top singles division, and a dominating straight-set singles win at #1 in the team’s first dual match against a formidable Belmont Hill opponent.

Girls Varsity Track & Field: Katherine Ni ’26, Evelyn Kunde ’26, Zoe Galaburda ’26, Vivian Monopoli ’26, and Eva Bramwell ’26
It is with great pride that we honor our five incredible captains with this week’s Doors of the Week for their outstanding leadership to start the track and field season. Katherine’s attention to detail and ability to truly see every athlete as an individual has made each member of this team feel recognized and appreciated. Evelyn’s kindness has created a warm and welcoming environment where every athlete feels valued. Zoe’s drive pushes everyone around her to reach higher and her team lifts have been a highlight. Vivian leads by example every single day, showing her teammates exactly what it means to show up and put in the work. Eva’s positivity has been the heartbeat of this team, bringing energy and encouragement when it matters most. Together, these five young women have set the tone for what promises to be a truly special season. We are so lucky to have them leading the way!

Girls JV Lacrosse: Ana Makrogiannis’26
Girls JV lacrosse nominates Ana Makrogiannis for her willingness to step into a new sport this season! On top of that, she will be playing goalie for us. We can already see her hockey skills translating in net and are excited to have such a supportive player join our team.

JV Baseball: Rowan Muzzy ’28
Rowan pitched for us on Wednesday against Loomis Chaffee.  His first nine pitches were strikes.   He faced only four batters in his first inning and did not allow a run to be scored.   In the final inning, he continued to throw strikes.   He ended up pitching 29 strikes and only 9 balls, a remarkable ratio a high school pitcher.

Ultimate: Cam Bloch ’28
Cam Bloch ’28 is our Ultimate Door of the Week.  Cam is new to the team, but he certainly knows how to toss a disk.  He asks all the right questions and puts coaching tips into practice right away and with great positive effect.  Cam is a model of a hard-working athlete who also knows how to have fun on the field and help the whole team get better.  We could not be more pleased to have Cam on our team!

Go Big Green!
