Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

JV Swimming: Matthew Susanto ’29
This week, JV Swim would like to nominate Matthew Susanto for DOTW. Matthew has been a fabulous addition to the JV swim team. His skill, speed, and consistency have set him apart all season. He shows up every day with a positive attitude and an unfailing work ethic. In our last big practice of the season, the team attempts to complete 50 50 yard freestyle swims on 50 second intervals and Matthew was the only JV swimmer to successfully finish these 50s on the 50 second interval. We were so impressed by his mental fortitude as he battled this difficult workout solo. Out of the pool, Matthew has been an exemplary teammate. Always the loudest voice on deck, he is an incredible cheerleader! He never fails to rally behind his teammates as they race. He makes the team a more supportive and joyful community every day with his effort, kindness, and humor. We feel really lucky to have him!

Boys Thirds Squash:  Ivan Kovernyk ’28
DOTW for Boys Thirds Squash is Ivan Kovernyk.  He won both matches from this past weekend’s doubleheader to continue his season long undefeated streak.  Against his Choate opponent, he lost a total of seven points across three sets.  His season-long dedication and sportsmanship shone throughout his matches.

Theatre: Janis Zempare ‘26
Janis Zempare ’26 is nominated as the Theater co-curricular’s Door of the Week. Janis lights up the stage with humorous scenes and gorgeous, passionate solos during the opening number and continues to sing, dance and act beautifully throughout Matilda, the Musical. Her collaborative spirit, consistency, and impeccable work ethic make time with her well spent, always! I am particularly proud of the strides Janis has taken this term to expand her acting skills. Her expressive inclusion of the audience and her melodic voicing of the doctor and judge add delightful resonance to our show. Congratulations, Janis! Enjoy your run!

Boys Varsity Squash: Hart Robertson ’26
Hart was an outstanding force of positivity and performance this past weekend throughout our bid at High School Nationals – His leadership through our hard times and our successes has been rock steady. On top of all of this, he has been undefeated his entire senior season!

Boys Varsity Swimming & Diving: Ethan Amundson ’26
Boys Swimming DOTW is Captain Ethan Amundson.  Deerfield finished its dual-meet season against Loomis with a hard-fought win that garnered the team a 6-3 season record.  At that meet, Ethan dropped significant time in both of his main events, the 200 and 500 freestyle races.  Throughout the season, the team has benefited from Ethan’s spirited talks, from seeing his consistent 100% effort in each and every practice, and from his dead-influenced musical playlists.    Congrats on Ethan being this week’s Door of the Week!

Girls Varsity Hockey: Milana Shuman ’28
Milana Shuman earns GVH’s DOTW nomination this week for her willingness to step into a new role late in the season and for scoring an important goal in our game. Milana switched to our forward “chaser” position early last week and did an excellent job initiating our forecheck and hunting down pucks. Her grit and work ethic paid off with a key goal that she netted in our 3-3 tie vs Kent. She transitioned seamlessly to the new position and has consistently been in the right spots on the ice to score. Keep it up, Milana!

Boys JV Basketball: Carter Schloat ’28
The Deerfield Boys JV basketball door of the week this week is Carter Schloat. Carter has been one of our hardest workers this season and always finds different ways to impact the game whether it is on the offensive or defensive end. With that being said, when we play NMH he is able to elevate his game to a different level. In 3 games against NMH this year, two of which took place this past week, Carter has scored double digit points in every contest drilling multiple threes each game. Anytime NMH had gained some sort of momentum Carter would step up and make a key play whether it was scoring the ball or getting a block on the defensive end. Great job Carter!

Boys JV Hockey: Stephen Gomez ’28
Stephen Gomez, whose relentless effort in practice and in games have demonstrated for all of us the meaning of giving 100% effort.

Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving: Tess Ho ’27
The Door of the Week for DAGVSD is Tess Ho ‘27. Tess is the embodiment of a driven and selfless competitor. Every day, she approaches practice and competition with clear goals, unwavering focus, and a determination to improve, putting in the work necessary to turn those goals into results. This season, her commitment has paid off as she continues to drop time and elevate her performances. We have also appreciated her flexibility and team-first mindset. Tess is always willing to adjust, step into new roles, and do whatever best serves the success of the team. She brings a steady, focused energy to the pool and leads by example through her work ethic and consistency. We are incredibly proud of the progress she has made this season and can’t wait to see her compete at our New England Championships. Keep up the great work, Tess!

Girls JV Basketball: Charlie ’26 and Daisy Rolland ’26
For our last DOTW, I’d like to nominate both Charlie and Daisy Rolland. As our captains, their leadership has been invaluable this season. They’ve not only excelled on the court, but they’ve also helped lead warmups and have been great thought partners to the coaches!

Boys Thirds Basketball: Seniors – Jesse Gachago ’26, Jaydon Hierro Komarnicki ’26, Victor Kibuuka ’26, Anthony Mariani ’26, and Tommy Govi ’26
The Boys 3rds Basketball Team is represented this week by the 5 outstanding seniors who have led the way for the Big Green this winter. These 5 players created a positive team culture, competed as a team and inspired each other to compete.  Jesse Gachago, Tommy Govi,  Jaydon Hierro Komarnicki, Victor Kibuuka and Anthony Mariani are all great reflections of what it means to be a Deerfield athlete.  We look forward to seeing them finish out this season on Saturday at 4:00 pm at home.  Go Big Green!
