Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!
Wrestling: DP Pope ’26 and Matthew Hough ’26
Deerfield Academy would like to recognize DP Pope and Matthew Hough for qualifying to wrestle at this year’s National Tournament in LeHigh Pa. this coming weekend. Both of these wrestlers placed 3rd in the Class A Tournament held over the long winter weekend back on Feb. 7th. Then at the New England tournament both placed in the top six in their weight classes making them eligible to move on to the Nationals. Both wrestlers have had very successful seasons and have represented Deerfield in the best way! Good luck this weekend to Matthew. DP will be attending the tournament in support of Matt but has aged out to be eligible for competition. Good luck Matt!
JV Swimming: JP Penman ’29
The DAJVST would like to nominate JP Penman for this week’s DOTW. JP has been learning to dive all season. He’s gone from rocking into the water on his knees to jumping into a hoop to tipping off the blocks. Every practice, he requests to work on his starts and every practice he makes substantial improvements. All of this hard work finally paid off at the last meet of the season when JP dove off the blocks in all of his races! This is such a huge accomplishment for him! We are so proud of his grit this season as he battled with this skill. Out of the water, JP is wonderfully kind and positive. We’re thrilled with JP’s work ethic and love having him on the team!
Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving: Sophia Gao ‘26
The Door of the Week of DAGVSD is Sophia Gao ‘26. Sophia is the embodiment of a competitor and a strong leader. Day in and day out, she shows up with a focused, determined mindset, ready to race, ready to win, and ready to do whatever it takes to help our team succeed. Sophia scores countless points meet after meet and sets the standard for what it means to compete with confidence and composure. As a captain, she leads through example and well-timed words of motivation that resonate deeply with her teammates. She approaches training and competing with a focused and tenacious spirit and spreads this energy to all those around her. She is steady, driven, and relentlessly competitive. We are incredibly grateful for her leadership, her determination, and the standard she has set over the past four years. We can’t wait to see you finish the season strong, Sophia!
Girls JV Squash: Nina Chen ‘26
Nina Chen ‘26 for continued growth as a player. Nina has demonstrated solid improvement in her technique and accuracy.
Girls Varsity Hockey: Chloe Cleaves ‘26
Chloe Cleaves earns our team’s nomination this week for her exceptional performance in our recent games. Chloe had a particularly strong week, marking several key goals for us in our tough match ups versus Westminster and Berkshire and playing consistently in all three zones of the ice. Additionally, Chloe has been a great teammate, always cheering on those on the ice during games and setting the tone for hard work during games. She is someone that we often rely on in key moments, and we are super excited to shout her out this week. Great work, Chloe!
Boys JV Basketball: Henry Dorman ’27
Henry Dorman has been one of our top scorers all season, however in our game against Exeter on Saturday he stole the show as he scored 32 points. (A possible JV Basketball record?) He was able to dominate both inside and out taking advantage of the zone defense Exeter ran while also scoring in isolation against his man when they switched to man defense. Henry’s size was certainly an advantage, and he made the most of it. He also played great in our game against NMH despite some early foul trouble. Great job Henry!
Music: Charles DeSorcy ’28 and Brandon Smith ’26
The music co-curricular nominates two keyboard players in the Matilda Pit Orchestra, Charles DeSorcy and Brandon Smith. Charles and Brandon have worked exceptionally hard this term to prepare the monumental piano and keyboard books for the Winter production of Matilda. They have mastered more than two hours of music spanning a wide range of styles and techniques, all while covering parts that represent piano, organ, strings, brass, synthesizers, and numerous special effects. These keyboard books are notoriously challenging—even for seasoned professionals—and the success of the entire show relies heavily on their musicianship.
Throughout this demanding process, I’ve been especially impressed by the way they support one another: energizing each other before practices, offering encouragement during difficult stretches, and affirming each other’s performances after long, grueling rehearsals. Their dedication, teamwork, and resilience have been inspiring to witness.
Boys JV Hockey: Jarron Crosbie ’26
Jarron’s positive, team-first attitude as well as his smart play on the ice earn him this week’s door of the week!
Theatre: Keoni Jones ’26
The theatra program
would like to nominate Keoni Jones ’26, our Stage Manager for Matilda, the Musical. 61 students are involved in this endeavor and communicating with the cast, crew, band, and supporting adults is just one of the many tasks that Keoni accomplishes with grace, thoughtfulness, and calm authority. Her responsibilities expand this week as she begins to call the light, sound and set movement cues for the show during our tech process, which integrates the performers’ work with the environmental elements that make the world of the show complete. This is all in preparation for next Thursday’s official opening of the show! Thank you, Keoni! Our show is in such kind and capable hands. We celebrate you!
Boys Thirds Squash: Anderson Berg ’29and Davis Wayne ’28
DOTW for boys thirds squash are Anderson Berg and Davis Wayne. Anderson won a tough 3-1 match at Eaglebrook, displaying great sportsmanship throughout. Davis Wayne is the definition of leadership. He is typically one of the first to practice and consistently works hard. And even though he did not play a match against Eaglebrook, he eagerly attended and supported his teammates throughout.
