Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Boys JV Hockey: Avery Powers ‘27
Avery Powers scored four goals on Friday night against NMH and two goals on Saturday against Andover.  Thus, Avery scored more than half of Deerfield’s goals in its two games this weekend!

Girls Varsity Basketball: Lily Woods ’26, Willa Kaplan ’28, Ruth Ogbeiwi ’27, Nathan Adu-Gyebi ’26, and Tyler Long ’26
Lily has been extremely coachable all season long, and steps into any role or position she needs to play for the team.  She’s optimistic, hard working, and poised under pressure. Great job Lily!
Willa stepped up big time against a very talented Exeter team, controlling rebounds and energizing her team.  She’s always ready to go any time her name gets called. Great job Willa!
Managers Ruth, Nathan, and Tyler bring positive energy, support, and enthusiasm consistently day in and day out.  Whether it’s a game, practice, bus ride, or jumping into a drill when needed, they create and atmosphere of passion, support, and community. Great job managers!

Boys Varsity Swimming & Diving: Magnus Selvig ’26
The DOTW for Boys Swimming is Magnus Selvig.  Magnus has taken his swimming to another level this year.  In our last meet this past Saturday against Exeter, he swam season best times in both the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke.  We’ll look again for his leadership to help the team this weekend against Choate!

JV Swimming: Olivia Minn ’28
JVST would like to nominate Olivia Minn as our DOTW this week! Olivia has been a fabulously committed and enthusiastic swimmer this season. New to the team and to the pool last year, she has improved tremendously over her season and a half with the JV squad. It’s been so much fun to watch her skill level, confidence, and love for the sport grow! She’s been pushing herself in practice each day to swim farther and faster than she ever has before, opting to swim the hardest sets put forward by us coaches each day last week. We’ve appreciated her consistency and kindness as one of the few returners to the team and know that she will continue to act as a leader for us in the coming years. We’re so excited to see her swim in her first meet this season!

Girls Varsity Squash: Liv Blecher ’28
Liv is new to the varsity squad this season and has made a big impact playing at #5 on the ladder. She bring positive energy to the courts every afternoon and helps build team unity through her infectious spirit. Liv’s had some great early season success and her play is getting stronger each week as we prep for Nationals!

Theatre: Ivan Abreu ’29, Cam Bloch ’28, Maeve Donovan ’27, Elisa Fandino-Chapela ’29, Lesly Hernandez ’29, Amani Magezi ’29, Hazel Secker ’26, Ruby Remillard ’26
I would like to nominate the Tech Crew of Matilda, the Musical, for the winter theater co-curricular’s Door of the Week. The sheer magnitude of set that has been built and painted, props created, procured, and organized and power tools safely employed thus far is truly impressive. The Tech Crew has endeavored to work together as a team, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in which to learn and grow individually while supporting each other and the entire production. Calm, creative and efficiently approaching this large-scale effort, they are literally creating the windows into this theatrical world… and the world itself!

Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving: Anne Kelly ‘27
The Door of the Week for DAGVSD is Anne Kelly ‘27. Anne is the definition of a dedicated teammate who brings both grit and joy to the pool. Recently, she has been working incredibly hard on her 200 and 500 Freestyle events, embracing the grind of distance training with impressive resilience and determination. Anne also brings a bubbly sense of humor that builds camaraderie and keeps the team spirit high during hard practices and competitions. She is deeply dedicated to our team culture, consistently looking for ways to include others and make practice fun. Whether she is cracking a joke to lighten the mood or pushing through a difficult set, Anne approaches everything with enthusiasm. Her unique mix of focus and fun strengthens our team bond every single day. Keep up the amazing work, Anne!

Wrestling: Matthew Hough ’26
Matthew Hough is Wrestling’s door of the week.  Matthew has been a strong captain all season, but has shown especially strong leadership this week.  He motivated the team through tough practices, pushing other wrestlers to do better when intensity flagged.  He spoke well after our Wednesday meet, celebrating important wins but also highlighting good decision-making and technique application in tough losses and last-second reversals.  He picked up disappointed teammates and pumped up those already feeling good.  Kudos to Matthew for showing great leadership this week.

Girls JV Basketball: Precious Ewuzie ’28
Precious Ewuzie ’28 works hard each day in practice to improve, always with a positive attitude and a smile. She stepped up this week after needing to play a larger role on the team in tough road games. We’re lucky to have her!

Girls JV Squash: EC Tate ’29
For grit, hustle, enthusiasm and heart. EC is committed to improving her squash skills and elevating morale. She is always willing to play twice during matches and has moved up one spot on the ladder. I am very proud of her attitude and progress.

Girls Varsity Hockey: Ava Giroux ’26
Ava Giroux earns DOTW for the girl’s hockey team for her outstanding play in last Saturday’s game versus Exeter and her overall team-first mentality. Ava has had a great season so far and we are really proud of her dedication to this team. Outside of hockey, she is the glue of the team. She constantly cheers on her teammates and always brings the energy. On the ice, she has been a force on the forecheck and in front of the net— and in our last game, she marked two key goals. Keep up the hard work, Ava!!

Go Big Green!
