Doors of the Week

Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!

Theatre: Ruby Remillard ’26
Ruby has gone above and beyond to help get our current production on track, as we have been behind schedule. I came in Saturday to paint the stage floor, and Ruby offered to help. She came in for four and a half hours, determined to help me finish the floor, and we got it done. She did not have to do that on her long weekend, and I am very grateful.

Boys Cross-Country: Nate Ugwonali ’27
This week’s Door of the Week for boys XC is Nate Ugwonali. Nate has done a terrific job of staying patient with the training this season, and trusting the process to yield results. In last week’s race at Choate, he pushed hard from the gun and slammed his best performance of the season so far. This week, he bravely stepped into the increased training intensity that he earned from his race effort. On Saturday’s challenging ladder workout, he gritted out an outstanding run and will enjoy the fruits of his efforts soon. Thanks to Nate for holding the standard high!

Boys Varsity Soccer: Ethan Pang ’28
Ethan Pang is the boys varsity soccer Door of the Week. He elevated from JV to V, and made an immediate impact.

Boys Jr. A Soccer: Howard Jin ’27 and Kenan Ozada ’28
This week the Boys Junior A team recorded its eighth win, a mark last year’s squad tried to reach on Choate Day but fell short. While the team has welcomed some talented new additions this season, the biggest reason for the dramatic improvement is that our returning players have made significant strides in playing as a team. Howard and Kenan were important players last year and are both skilled players. They love dribbling, and they love taking shots, and they’re strong in both areas. What they’ve figured out this season is that they can be more effective when they prioritize passing and positioning themselves well off the ball. The difference has been striking, and together they’ve helped give their team an opportunity to record more wins than it has in at least a decade. In Wednesday’s match against Williston they both scored goals—the first for Kenan, the ninth for Howard—but it was their quick one-touch passing and intelligent runs off the ball that contributed most to Deerfield’s lopsided win.

Girls JV Soccer: Kaylin Alvarez ’28, Celine Chang ’28, Maggie Monroe-Williams ’26, Charlotte Naughton ’28, Katherine Ni ’26, Adannia Okpokwasili ’27, Emma Pless ’27, Aylen Shaw ’28, and Julia Yates ’26
The JV Girls’ Soccer team’s Doors of the Week are our defensive players.  This group of players has fought hard and improved significantly over the course of the season.  We have appreciated their good cheer and leadership from the back of the field!

Boys Water Polo: Saxon Girodet ’28
Water polo nominates Saxon Girodet for DOTW. Saxon brings power and heart to every game and is often the force that starts an offensive attack. You might say that this is the case because his team trusts him in protecting the ball and looks to him for strength and confidence in the water. Often scoring goals and protecting his keeper, Saxon is emerging as a clear leader on our team and we know he will continue to act as a pillar in the years to come. Great job Saxon, thanks for bringing the fire!

Girls Thirds Soccer: Saadia Ouermi ’27 and Abby Paucar ’27
At this point girls’ 3rds would like to recognize Saadia Ouermi and Abby Paucar for their relentless defensive efforts as well as positive attitude throughout the season. They have been a pillar of our squad and part of the reason why we have conceded so few goals. They are also great examples of what it means to have a competitive mindset, serving as role models for everyone else on the team.

Boys Jr. B Soccer: Coleman Keller ’28
The Quad Squad Door of the Week is Coleman Keller! In his second year on the team, Coleman has stepped up as a major contributor to Quad Squad. On the field, his steady presence on defense has been a huge part of our success this season. Off the field, his enthusiasm for our team is never-ending. We are grateful for all his hard work and contributions this season.

Girls JV Volleyball: Selin Aksoy ’27 & Clara Lipman ’27
This week’s Doors of the Week are Selin Aksoy ’27 and Clara Lipman ’27, who both played key roles in Deerfield’s 3–1 win over Exeter.
Selin Aksoy ’27 has shown steady growth and leadership as the team’s setter. Against Exeter, she recorded multiple aces and several strong defensive plays. Selin’s ability to organize the offense and keep the team focused and energized has had a positive impact on both our games and our team.
Clara Lipman ’27 is recognized for her dedication to volleyball and her teammates. Clara contributed several key kills in the second set and remained a steady presence on the court. Her work ethic, enthusiasm, and commitment to the team stand out and set a strong example for others.
Together, Selin and Clara represent the focus and teamwork that make JV Volleyball successful

Boys JV Soccer: Blaze Etienne-Cummings ’28
Blaze has been a very consistent player and leader for the JV soccer team. He competes at a high level for every ball, whether in practice or game. He zooms up and down the field, willing to press high or hustle back on defense. He is constantly looking to improve and internalizes feedback readily. Recently, he was injured and traveled to an away match anyway. From the sideline in coat and tie, he gave vocal support and timely instruction to his teammates. The kid has no quit and is fully committed to his team’s success, no matter his assignment and in any conditions. We coaches really appreciate Blaze’s many contributions.

Football: Chuck Haight ‘26
The Football team’s DOTW for this week is Chuck Haight. Chuck led the team in receiving yards and scored on a highlight play catch and run for a 68 yard touchdown.  He is an explosive threat to score every time he touches the ball and we are fired up to see him compete again at home this week against Andover. Go Big Green!

Girls Thirds Volleyball: Alayna Cardoso ’28
Everyday Alayna brings enthusiasm, humor, and joy to our team. There are very few of us who can match her energy which she graciously shares with us every day that we are together. More than that, Alayna has also become a confident and consistent player; her serving has taken a giant leap forward. Alayna cares a great deal about the team’s success and she shows that through her performance and presence. Congratulations Alayna!

Varsity Field Hockey: Peyton Wierl ’26
Captain of the varsity field hockey team, Peyton Wierl ’26 has led the team to new heights this season through her strong leadership. A fierce competitor, Peyton scored back-to-back hat tricks in this week’s games against Westminster and Taft. A force on the forward line, Peyton leads with compassion and clear dedication to the program. We thank Peyton for all of her hard work this season and look forward to seeing her shine in the final weeks of the season.

Girls Varsity Soccer: Meryl Gilbert ‘27
Meryl Gilbert has been a steady presence in the midfield for the Big Green this season. Her ability to create, combine with teammates, eagerness to get into the attacking coupled with her work rate have been fun to watch! Game-in and game-out, Meryl has faced off against opposing teams best players both technically and athletically, and she is eager to step up to the challenge each and every game. Her effort was on display again this past Saturday vs. Exeter when she registered another goal hustling to convert a rebound and ensure the Big Green victory. Keep up the great work, Meryl!

Go Big Green!
