Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!
Ultimate: Hazel Secker ‘26
The Ultimate Door of the Week is Hazel Secker ’26. Hazel is a strong, energetic and skilled athlete who performs as the heart of the team. Understated but with a vibrant presence nonetheless, Hazel not only plays in ways that benefit the team score-wise; they also consistently exhibit a positive presence, an even-keeled mindset, support to fellow players, and superior team spirit. Hazel is additionally a good communicator on and off the field, clearly and kindly offering great suggestions to less experienced players and good cheer to the team as a whole. (Note: All of the above shoutouts come from Hazel’s teammates, who offered them in the days following our Saturday, May 10, tournament.) Coaches and students alike are incredibly lucky to have Hazel as a member of the Ultimate crew.
Girls JV Lacrosse: Georgia Ball ’25, Greta Trapp ’25, Kate Chorske ’25, Alexandra Fierro ’25, Grace Taylor ’25, Anneke Wittink ’25, Claire Kepner ’25, Edie Huffard ’25 (manager), Alva Fink ’25 (manager), Chloe Xue ’25 (manager)
GJVLAX nominates our seniors for our last week together. Our tight-knit group of 7 players significantly contributed on and off the field in so many different ways. We are proud of them for leading the team so well and for making the season so fun. To our 3 managers, thank you for your dedication and willingness to help out. We couldn’t have done it without our 10 seniors. Thank you so much for a great season!
Boys JV Lacrosse: Jack Forsyth ’26
The boy’s JV lacrosse team would like to nominate Jack Forsyth for their DOTW. In the past few weeks, Jack’s hard work has resulted in his scoring and assisting on many occasions. In last weeks against Avon Old Farms School, Jack tallied 3 goals and an assist from playing a combination of attack and midfield positions on the field. Congratulations to Jack for helping the team and his unselfish play this season.
Softball: Maggie Garbarino ’27
Joining the team this year, Maggie quickly became one of our most dependable and experienced players. Her impact has been felt both on and off the field, bringing leadership, energy, and a deep knowledge of the game. In a heartbreaking matchup against Taft, Maggie suffered a sprained ankle that cast doubt on the rest of her season. But even while sidelined, she showed up every day, helping teammates improve, offering encouragement, and staying locked in with her team. After a committed recovery, Maggie returned to the field stronger than ever. As our leadoff hitter and only lefty, she’s a consistent force at the plate and a spark for the team. At shortstop, her quick reflexes make it hard for any runner to beat her throw. Her leadership sets the tone every game, and we can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes in seasons to come!
Theatre: The Cast and Crew of the Spring Production
This Spring’s production of “The One Act Play That Goes Wrong” has been a big lift for everyone involved! Although it is a relatively short show, there are numerous technical challenges throughout. No spoiler alerts – but just know that there are a TON of moving pieces! Cast and crew alike have had to work swiftly and be hyper focused throughout this short term, but everyone has rolled up their sleeves, collaborated and worked extremely hard to create what we think is a wonderful show to finish the academic year up. Congratulations to everyone involved both on stage and back stage!
Girls JV Tennis: Julie Yan ’26
She has been a steadfast contributor to tennis and brings a healthy competitive spirit to practice and match play. Go Julie!
Varsity Baseball: Max Fukudome ’28
Max is a great human being! He shows up to practice every day prepared to learn and get better. Throughout the year, he has put the team ahead of his individual goals. Max has been such a positive influence on the culture of the varsity baseball program this year. He has gone above and beyond everything asked of him. His dedication and hard work has really paid off as he continues to sharpen his skillset. Max has bright future ahead at Deerfield.
Boys Track & Field: Aaron Han ’28
The DOTW for boys track is Aaron Han. Aaron has worked quietly to develop technique for his striking athleticism in the triple jump. At NMH this week, he jumped a new personal best and earned a spot on the roster for New England’s. Great job, Aaron!
Girls Track & Field: Alex Hermsdorf ’25
Alex Hermsdorf is our final DOTW. Through recent adversity with injury and illness, she has maintained excellent leadership, positivity, and seriousness of purpose. Whether she is running in all of her events on the track or cheering from the sidelines, she is an invaluable member of our team. We can’t wait to see her celebrated during the signing ceremony and know that Colby is welcoming an exemplary athlete and person to their ranks!
JV baseball: Cormac McDowell ’26
Cormac has been an excellent leader all season long. Always calm, Cormac has been a voice of reason in some our more challenging moments. A three-year veteran of JV baseball, he is well respected by his teammates. Cormac has been rock solid at first base all season, snagging many errant balls thrown in his general direction.
Varsity Golf: Tucker Gongaware ’26
Tucker led the Deerfield golf team by shooting a combined total of seven over par during the 36-hole international invitational tournament. He also shot a 2-under par 34 to lead Deerfield in its tie against Westminster.
