Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!
Boys JV Lacrosse: Felix Alfaro ’27
Boy’s JV Lacrosse would like to nominate Felix Alfaro as their DOTW. In the past two games Felix has passed and shot with pinpoint accuracy from his attack position. Whether he is driving around the goal from behind or delivering a perfect pass for a teammate on the crease, he is putting in the ball in the net or assisting on a goal. In his most recent game this week, he led the team in scoring with 5 goals. Felix is one of the reasons the team is enjoying a 3 game winning streak.
Softball: Haley Abraham ‘25
Softball’s Door of the Week is Haley Abraham ‘25. A member of the team since her first year at Deerfield, Haley has consistently made her presence felt both on and off the field. As the team’s sole captain this season, she leads with energy, positivity, and a deep commitment to better herself and her teammates. Haley is the kind of player everyone looks to for guidance, and she is always willing to help others learn and grow. Her leadership goes beyond performance, as she fosters a sense of inclusion.
Haley is versatile and dependable. With a season, unknowing of what the next game will bring, Haley is ready to take on roles at shortstop, centerfield, and first base, and could probably step in as catcher if needed. On top of that, she anchors the lineup as the team’s cleanup hitter, consistently delivering in high-pressure moments. Haley will be deeply missed next year, not just for her athleticism and leadership, but for the way she brings this team together.
Girls Varsity Water Polo: Anne Kelly ’27
The Water Polo team’s DOTW is Anne Kelly. Anne is a powerful polo player, and has been a rock for her team all season. She displays skill and strength in any given moment and fights the good fight down to the last second. Her performances this season have been valiant. Although we can easily compliment her prowess in the sport, she’s DOTW for a much more important reason; from a coaching perspective, it seems like she values the betterment of all team members just as much as her own personal success. Her teammates know that they can look to her for help, both in the conceptual understanding of the sport and in the context of our gameplay. This trait is both invaluable and noble, not just in water polo, but in any team environment. We are undoubtedly lucky to have her at DA! Great job Anne, proud of you!
Ultimate: Billy Tang ’25 and Albert Yuk ’26
The Ultimate Doors of the Week are Billy Tang ’25 and Albert Yuk ’26. Billy and Albert have grown tremendously as Ultimate athletes, and they give it their best both in practice and during games. Albert has become an expert dribbler in the midfield, making short, effective passes that gain us critical yards. Billy knows just where to run to get those great passes for touchdowns. Both players additionally understand Spirit of the Game and represent D.A. in ways that make us proud.
Boys JV Tennis: Harry Mitchell ’27 and Kabir Sheth ‘25
DOTW goes to Harry Mitchell ‘27 for spirit, performance, and grace during tough losses. Harry is big contributor to the lighthearted and fun atmosphere on the team and his ideas for fun games to play are always appreciated.
Second nomination goes to Kabir Sheth ‘25 for steadfast growth and coachability. Kabir is one part of an undefeated doubles duo—an impressive feat given it’s his first year playing competitive tennis!
Girls JV Lacrosse: Georgia Ball ’25
Our DOTW nomination this week goes to Georgia Ball for being so welcoming and inclusive in our game/clinic with Bement on Wednesday. In lieu of a game, we held a clinic and mentorship day with the Bement lacrosse team. Our players created and lead drills for the members of the Bement team, before mixing up teams for a scrimmage. Georgia did an amazing job including all the younger kids and making them feel welcome on the field. As she always does, Georgia demonstrated her strong leadership skills. Great job, Georgia!
Boys Varsity Tennis: Anthony Sparacio ’25
Anthony Sparacio is the DOTW for boys varsity tennis. Anthony played a great match on Wednesday against Hotchkiss, winning in straight sets and clinching the shutout for the Doors.
Girls Varsity Track & Field: Emsy Pfeifler ’27, Svetlana Deshpande ’25, and Aye Woghiren ’25
We have had many athletes step up this week for many reasons. Three stand out this week as going above and beyond. Emsy joined the 1500 race, where she was the only girl, and still earned a personal record time. Svetlana and Aye stepped up to do the 300-meter hurdles and exemplify taking risks. I am incredibly proud of these athletes and their willingness to take risks to lead in such a positive way. We are grateful for their enjoyment of the sport and team spirit. For these reasons and many more, this week’s Girls Track and Field Doors of the Week go to Emsy Pfeifler, Svetlana Deshpande, and Aye Woghiren.
Theatre: Vivian Wan ’25
She’s dedicated to the arts and took the time to learn a new skill that was outside of her abilities. She took great pride in the work she created. We are very impressed with her work ethic!
Boys Varsity Lacrosse: Matt Johnson ‘25
A nomination to Matt Johnson ’25 for his three-goal performance against Nobles in Sunday’s 16-13 victory.
Varsity Baseball: Avery Powers ’27
Avery has been outstanding teammate and developed into a very reliable and consistent left handed pitcher for us. This past week he picked up a save in our win against Suffield and pitched effectively against Westminster. Keep up the great work Avery!
Drawing & Painting: Janet Ogbeiwi ’25
This week Janet Ogbeiwi is the Visual Arts Cocurricular Door of the Week. Janet has taken up drawing with ease since starting the spring term and has proved to be a talented renderer and patient observer. She continues to do great work every week, and she should be proud of her progress and newly discovered skills!
JV Baseball: Alastair Ylvisaker ’28
Alastair has been an enthusiastic member of the JV baseball team all season long. In practice, he has made progress hitting and fielding balls. Against, Cardigan Mountain School, Alastair played first base and batted in a game for the first time, facing CMS’s best pitcher. He hit two foul balls and battled to a full count before going down swinging. He is one of our most vocal cheerleaders.
