Congratulations to this week’s Doors of the Week!
Softball: Cori Scagel ’25
The door of the week for softball is Cori Scagel. She is picking up the game quickly having been away from it for almost a decade. She had some great catches in the game against Worcester and is unfailingly positive and a great teammate.
Ultimate: Esther Lee ’25 and David Peirce ’25
This week’s Ultimate Doors of the Week are seniors Esther Lee and David Peirce. Both new to the game, they are hard-working, focused athletes who use head and heart along with physicality in both games and daily practice. Esther played an especially good defense this week, modeling excellent defensive positioning throughout our McDuffie game. David makes impressive blocks and gives it his all to complete passes. We’re proud to have these smart, dedicated players on the field!
Boys JV Lacrosse: Sam Peake ’28
Same is a solid defensive player who comes to practice and games ready to play. He gives 100% every time he steps on the field and is a fierce competitor once the whistle blows.
Boys Varsity Tennis: Gunter Weldon ’27
Gunter Weldon is the boys varsity tennis DOTW. Gunter made history as the first DA player ever to win both the #1 singles and #1 doubles brackets at the Kingswood Oxford Invitational Tennis Tournament (KITT), an event that’s been ongoing since 1973. En route to his singles victory, Gunter defeated a Groton player in straight sets who had just beaten him earlier that week; in the finals, the sophomore ousted a Wesleyan-bound senior with previous KITT titles.
Girls Varsity Tennis: Chloe Hernandez ’27
Chloe has battled and strategized her way through each match this tennis season. A clear pattern is emerging: she uses the early games to study her opponent, then shifts momentum in her favor. That was exactly the case on Wednesday against Westminster. After falling behind by two games in singles, Chloe stormed back to win 6-4, 6-3. Her debut season on varsity is off to a strong and promising start!
Girls JV Tennis: Chloe ’25 and Shelby ’27 Acquavella
Chloe and Shelby Acquavella played from behind to tie up their #1 doubles match against Westminster and eventually win 9-8 after dominating the tiebreak match! They displayed a competitive and confident spirit on the court. Congrats Chloe & Shelby!
Varsity Baseball: Barrett Adams ‘27
Bear has collected four hits and has played stellar defense at first base in our last two games. His dedication and hard work in practice has really paid off!
Boys JV Tennis: Russell Fan ’28
One of three newly elected captains, and he is a first year student. His captaincy is indicative of his quiet leadership, skill and dedication. Congrats to Russell on a fun and well-played doubles match, and for logging his first singles win of the season! His pre-game speech went something along the lines of “Winning is great, but playing your best is more important than winning”…and we won 5-2!
Dance: Ana Malhotra ’27 and Linnea Knox ’27
Ana and Linnea are both tremendously dedicated to the Dance program on a whole and contribute in wonderful ways! Ana continually challenges herself to learn new skills with bravery and gusto. Linnea is an exemplary student and consistently exhibits an exceptional work ethic. Both dancers are models of artistry and dedication.
Girls Track & Field: Evelyn Kunde ’26
This athlete comes to practice every day with the best attitude. Although she has been working through a few injuries, she keeps a smile on her face and is ready for the recovery workout. She is a leader in the warm-up and helps others understand why the warm-up and cool-down are impactful in their training. Her bright and positive spirit is contagious. We cannot wait to see what she accomplishes throughout the season during her events. For these reasons and many more, Girl’s Track & Field’s Door of the Week goes to Evelyn Kunde.
Boys Track & Field: Gianluca Simonelli ’27
Gianluca Simonelli is new to track this season, but has brought an outgoingly positive attitude to the track each day, along with not merely an interest but a willingness to try new events and find the joy in them even when they are difficult. We’re really glad to have you down there, Gianluca — keep up the great team work.
Theatre: William Wichern ’27
William Wichern ’27 is the Theater Program’s Door of the Week. William consistently arrives early to rehearsals and throws himself into staging with gusto! Creative and fearless, William is one of those actors who instinctively knows how to move around a stage. A self-sufficient actor, William takes bold risks and is able to figure out staging solutions for himself. He also has superb comic timing and his work is very ensemble minded. William stays focused on the work at hand and is unrelentingly reliable. He’s also a kind, and joyful individual who brings warmth to our rehearsal room. Thank you William!
Girls Varsity Lacrosse: Olivia Smit ’25, Kate Doucette ’27, Eleanor DuPont ’26 and Izzy Ramirez ’25
Both Olivia and Kate have been strong forces in goal. making many impressive saves for the team thus far. They each made a strong contribution defensively in our first win of the season against Middlesex.
Eleanor has been providing positive spirit and coaching on the sideline, and provides great leadership for the team.
Izzy has been such a trooper in managing the team through some tough weather in the early season. She does so with a smile, which is much appreciated!
