Doors of the Week

Congratulations to our first Doors of the Week for the winter 2024-2025 term!

JV Swimming: Vivian Gonzalez ‘25
This week, JV Swim would like to nominate Vivian Gonzalez ’25 as our DOTW. Through all three seasons that Vivian has swam for the JV team, we’ve never seen her without a smile on her face. Her genuine desire to improve each and every practice and her unending positivity even when the workout is challenging makes her a standout swimmer and teammate. This season, Vivian has also taken on a leadership role, guiding new swimmers through each practice with patience, good humor, and consistency. We love working with Vivian in the pool because she masterfully maintains a balance between hard work, hard laughter, and good fun. She is a friend to all on the team and will be a wonderful leader for us this season.

Boys JV Basketball: Will Machnik ’26
Will Machnik ’26 set the tone for the season with his leadership, hard work, and infectious enthusiasm. In the opener against Loomis, he led the team with 10 points and inspired his teammates with his positive presence and determination. Will’s commitment to improving himself and uplifting the team makes him a deserving choice for Door of the Week.

Girls Varsity Hockey: Gia Thompson ‘26
Gia Thompson ’26 earns Deerfield Girls Hockey’s first Door of the Week nomination for her outstanding performance and leadership. Gia was excellent in our preseason practices, always pushing the pace for her teammates. In the season opener versus NYA, Gia demonstrated poise with the puck and marked her first goal of the season. She was gritty in the corners, intense on the forecheck, and relentless on the backcheck. Her tireless play on the ice makes her such a tough opponent to play against. In our second game versus St. Mark’s, Gia built off her momentum and delivered another solid game. Off the ice, Gia’s support of her teammates is equally as impressive. She is always one of the first to cheer on or congratulate another teammate. For all these reasons, Gia is well-deserving of our DOTW nomination. Keep up the great work, Gia!

Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving: Gigi Selvig ’27
The Door of the Week for DAGVSD is Gigi Selvig ’27. In these first weeks of practice, Gigi has really pushed herself and her teammates, setting a standard for the rest of the season. She is quick to share words of encouragement with her lane-mates and cheer for others during races. In our first meet against Austin Prep, Gigi showcased her hard work and teamwork, finishing strong in her individual events: the 100 yard butterfly, and the 100 yard breaststroke. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, Gigi helped her teammates take first place! Her willingness to take on the 100 fly, and the mental and physical strength she brought to all of her performances are testaments to the athlete she is. Gigi’s positive attitude, grit, and the intensity she brought to our first meet has earned her this title!

Go Big Green!
