Cross-Country Makes Fast Start in Season Debut

The boys and girls cross-country teams enjoyed a fast start to their respective seasons on Saturday in their season opening races hosted by Avon Old Farms. The boys team earned three victories in the outing against Hotchkiss, Avon and Berkshire. The girls team stepped to the starting line with Hotchkiss, Miss Porter’s and Berkshire and secured two dominant victories. A great day of racing for the Big Green!

From Coach Morris:

The Deerfield runners went out aggressively and secured competing early positions before settling into solid racing packs that ultimately yielded team victory for the Doors. Many runners completed their first ever 5k in the Green and White, and all the boys impressed with their willingness to push themselves hard for the benefit of the team project. Looking ahead, the Deerfield harriers will travel to Concord, New Hampshire next Saturday to face the St. Paul’s Pelicans.

From Coach Hodge:

Many members of the team ran their first ever 5k (on Saturday), and the coaches are extremely proud of them. Every athlete raced hard over the rolling hills, with Nicole Lefavour ‘27 coming in fifth overall and getting a season best time, despite the more challenging terrain. Just behind Nicole was Jane Bannon ‘26, followed closely by the formidable pack of Margot Harris ‘29, Stella Frankel ‘27, Maura Glynn ‘28, Liesel Stitch ‘28, and Tatum Glynn ‘27. Hotchkiss were just a little quicker off the line, and so DAGXC closely lost out on first place, but our runners handily beat Miss. Porter’s and Berkshire. We’re looking forward to taking what we learned from this race to St. Paul’s next weekend!
