Congratulations to Christian Capella ’25 who has received a Wild Card to compete in the 27th Annual J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in New York City!
Christian was one of four top American Juniors to receive this invitation and had to pass the bar by first defeating Jack Elriani (3-2) then facing Alexander Dartnell. Capella and Dartnell recently placed 3rd and 2nd respectively at The British Junior Open 2025 in Birmingham, UK, so Christian went into tonight’s match ready to put it all on the line. Dartnell took a commanding lead with two close fought games before Capella staged his comeback. Steadily, inexorably, Christian found one foothold after another, leveling the score at 2-2 to earn the 5th set tie-break. By the early stages of the 5th set Capella made it clear there were no pathways left forward for his opponent, but it was an amazing match all around – well-fought Alex!
Capella will join the likes of Aly Farag, Mostafa Asal, Paul Coll and Diego Elias, along with all the world’s top men’s professionals, starting at 5:30 pm on Thursday Jan. 23. We hope you’ll join us in rooting for Christian on this historic occasion, and if you’re in the Tri-state area, pop over to the Harvard Club NYC and show out in your Deerfield regalia!
Tune in to watch here.
