The Big Green swimming and diving teams had an exciting senior day as they bid farewell to nine seniors. They dominated against Loomis Chaffee on Saturday in an impressive fashion. Out of 24 total events between the teams, Deerfield was victorious in placing first in 18 events.
The girls’ team kicked off the meet with a commanding win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Deerfield’s “A” relay team, composed of Jane Bannon ‘26, Sophia Gao ‘26, Joanna Chang ‘26, and Melinda Aznar Klein ‘25, finished with a time of 1:53.35, outpacing Loomis Chaffee’s top team by almost five seconds. For individual events, Sophia Gao stole the show in the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 1:57.86 for a solid victory, as well as conquering the 100 Yard Breaststroke at 1:06.15. In the 200 Yard IM, Jane Bannon finished first at 2:15.57, leading a field of competitors including Loomis’s Helen Wu who placed second with a time of 2:15.66. Olivia Smit ‘25 and Melinda Aznar Klein took the top two spots in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Smit also secured a win in the 100 Yard Freestyle beating out Loomis’s Jessica Zhao 55.34 seconds to 55.38 seconds. The girls wrapped up their day with an impressive victory by the “A” team in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay swam by Smit, Joanna Chang ‘26, Bannon, and Gao. Deerfield’s “B” and “C” relay teams also performed admirably, securing third and fifth place finishes.
The boys’ team also showcased their dominance, starting with a triumph in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Deerfield’s “A” relay team consisting of John Comite ‘26, Russel Fan ‘28, Giulio Migliarina ‘25, and Max Fukudome ‘28, finished in 1:39.83, narrowing edging out Deerfield’s “B” team who finished in 1:39.94. Edwin Chu ‘27 claimed first place in two events, first the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:44.85, and then the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:49.12. Giulio Migliarina also secured two individual event victories, the first was the 200 Yard IM where he was closely followed by Leon Kong ‘25, and the second event was the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 50.22. First-year Max Fukudome had a remarkable day grabbing first in the 50 Yard Freestyle, and the 100 yard Freestyle where he was closely pursued by GD Lee in second place. John Comite seized first in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 56.70, and Leon Kong secured the win in the final individual event of the day, the 100 Yard Breast Stroke with an impressive time of 59.41.
In the 1-meter diving events, Deerfield captivated the competition, securing impressive finishes across both the girls’ and boys’ categories. For the girls’, Gage Calhoun ‘27 took first place with a remarkable score of 249.45, showcasing her expertise and consistency throughout the event. Teammate Kayleen Tang ‘25 scored 226.64, delivering a strong performance and maintaining a competitive edge. Rounding out the top three, Jewel Suh ‘28 earned 205.58, securing third place. The boys’ 1-meter diving was similarly impressive and dominated by Deerfield divers. Alex Chutkow ‘26 posted an excellent score of 207.52 earning him first place with a consistent and controlled performance. Loomis’s George DeVos finished second, while Deerfield’s Kwasi Adu-Gyamfi ‘26 rounded out the top three with a score of 132.75. Joshua Graham ‘26 also competed and placed fourth scoring 125.85.
Deerfield’s swimmers and divers put on a thrilling show during their Senior Meet, securing victories across numerous events and ending the day with a combined win of 207-162 points. The team’s depth and talent were in full display as they showcased both individual and relay triumphs. With their sweep, Deerfield will continue to demonstrate their success as they prepare for the postseason. This performance was especially memorable as it honored the senior athletes, celebrating their contributions to the teams’ success over the years and giving them a fitting farewell in front of their home crowd.
