For boys varsity squash, the 2019 championship tournament marked the best finish in the seniors’ careers; the last time the team finished in second place was in 2014. This year’s championship tournament performance was highlighted by five second place finishes and two fourth place individual finishes. This year’s team amassed a 17-3 season record and earned a third place finish at the 2019 HEAD US High School Team Championships. In the Class A boys NEISA Tournament, the Big Green were edged by #1 Brunswick who finished with 113 points. In third place was St. Paul’s with 80 points.

“Saturday was the best team day of Deerfield squash in my Deerfield history. Merritt’s individual performance was a highlight, he defeated the No. 1 seed 13-11 in the fifth game. The team effort at the tournament was off the charts.” said boys head coach Mike Silipo.

The girls varsity squash team impressed at the Class A New England Championships with their consistent dominance; earning four third place finishes and three second place finishes throughout their seven-player line up. This is the second consecutive year that the girls team has earned the silver trophy at the event after being named co-champions in the 2016-17 season. This year, the team was edged by #1 Greenwich and finished ahead of rival #3 Choate. The girls team finished the season with a 12-3 record and finished in 4th place at the 2019 HEAD US High School Team Championships.

When asked about the championship weekend, girls head coach Karinne Heise shared, “I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s efforts at New Englands.  Everyone played with incredible heart and team spirit — a passionate performance that showcased the best of what sports can be.”

Congratulations to the squash teams on a great season!

Go Big Green!
