US Lacrosse Honors Halloran & Valencia as All-Academic All-Americans

Carly Barbato – June 14, 2017

As announced last week by US Lacrosse, senior lacrosse captain Meghan Halloran was one of only two players in Western Massachusetts to receive the honor of All-Academic All-American for the 2017 season. The only other player from Western Massachusetts to receive this prestigious honor was future Deerfield post-graduate lacrosse player, Hannah Valencia from Longmeadow High School.

This year Meghan was a 3-sport varsity student-athlete for the Big Green. She lettered in soccer, hockey and lacrosse; captaining two of the three varsity teams on which she contributed. Next year, Meghan will continue her ambitious athletic career by continuing to pursue 2-sports, hockey and lacrosse, at the collegiate level for the Williams College Ephs. On the lacrosse field this season alone, Meghan won 73 draw control battles, scoring 18 goals and added 10 assists. We look forward to watching Meghan’s continued successes on the ice and field in Williamstown!

Currently, Valencia is a lacrosse goalie for Longmeadow High School who is still in pursuit of a Division-I state championship. On Monday, Hannah and her Longmeadow teammates defeated Franklin by a score of 12-6 in the semifinal game at Babson College. The Lancers will now take on either Andover or Needham this Saturday at Boston University in the Division-1 state championship game. A start time for the game has not yet been announced. In September, Hannah will join the Big Green as a post-graduate student-athlete. We look forward to welcoming Hannah to Deerfield!
