Deerfield’s varsity tennis girls were back on the courts for another fiercely competitive 4–5 match, falling just one point short in a hard-fought battle. The afternoon featured long rallies, dramatic momentum swings, and several performances that reflected how much this group has grown over the course of the spring.
At first doubles, Chloe Schiff and Blake Coleman played some of their sharpest tennis of the season. The pair battled through a thrilling 7-9 match featuring brilliant winners, fearless volleys, and extended exchanges that repeatedly drew attention from the crowd gathered for the match. Chloe Hernandez and Grace Lodge showed impressive resolve at second doubles, battling back late to even the match after falling behind early. Strategic placement, patient construction, and savvy doubles instincts kept them in contention throughout. At third doubles, Arabella Navab and Travis Gerst delivered Deerfield’s most decisive doubles point of the afternoon, rolling through the match with methodical play, strong communication, and seamless teamwork.
Singles once again showcased Deerfield’s resilience. Chloe Schiff asserted herself at first singles with relentless baseline play and a series of beautifully angled winners. Grace Lodge proved too much for her opponent at fifth singles, controlling points with steady depth and confidence from the opening games. Arabella Navab authored one of the day’s grittiest performances, digging in after an early three-game deficit and storming back to earn a convincing win through disciplined, determined tennis.
The team came up one point shy in the end, but the girls left everything on the court once again. Deerfield is especially grateful for the leadership of graduating seniors Arabella, Jeanne, Travis, and Josie. Their competitiveness, friendship, laughter, and love for the team helped shape the culture of the program, and they will be sorely missed on the courts next year.
