Deerfield’s varsity tennis girls closed out the regular season in style on Wednesday, earning an emphatic 8–1 victory over visiting Choate. The team brought steady energy and confident play from the opening serves, controlling the afternoon with composure and aggressive play across the lineup.
At doubles, Deerfield set the tone early with sharp communication and disciplined teamwork. Josie Kalish and Travis Gerst delivered one of the day’s most exciting moments at third doubles, battling through a thrilling tiebreak victory in both players’ final match for Deerfield. The pair stayed composed under pressure and responded to momentum swings with fearless net play and timely winners.
Singles play showcased the depth and resilience of the group. Chloe Hernandez authored one of the day’s grittiest performances at second singles, fighting back for a comeback win against an opponent who relied heavily on pace, spin, and difficult serves. Travis Gerst capped her Deerfield career with a resounding 8–2 victory at third singles, dictating points with confidence and consistency throughout the match. Blake Coleman delivered another commanding performance at fourth singles, never wavering and fully trusting her powerful groundstrokes on the way to an 8–3 win. Grace Lodge continued her outstanding season at fifth singles, using her trademark slices and strategic placement to frustrate her Choate opponent all afternoon. At sixth singles, captain Arabella Navab closed out her final match in green with a perfect 8–0 win.
The afternoon served as a fitting close to the regular season for a team that competed with tremendous heart all spring. Deerfield extends sincere thanks to graduating seniors Arabella, Jeanne Mei, Travis, and Josie for their loyalty to the program, sportsmanship, leadership, and friendship.
