Boys varsity tennis concluded their season with a quarterfinal playoff loss to eventual runner-up Exeter, 4-0.
Doubles started slowly for the Doors, but before long, each court settled into their match. Simultaneously, all three duos (#1 Weldon/Kasumov, #2 Feng/Chen, and #3 Juhas/Barry) found themselves at 5-6, and Deerfield looked poised to capitalize on their strong doubles play built up over the season. Exeter had other plans for us however, and closed out matches on the first and third courts to clinch the point and send us into singles play.
After our stressful match the previous weekend, players were prepared with strategies for their rematches; unfortunately for DA, Exeter was out for blood and we struggled to get our footing across each court. Courts 3, 5, and 6 were won by Exeter in quick succession to secure the win for the Big Red.
Despite the loss, the season overall was a resounding success. With 9 wins and just 3 losses- including tight 4-3 victories over St. Paul’s, Andover, Hotchkiss, and Loomis- our young team showed so much heart and dedication throughout. We will miss our senior captain Tai Feng next year, but look forward to another fantastic season in 2027. THANK YOU to all of our families for your incredible dedication throughout the season. Your warmth, generosity, and support- both on and off the court- made the season so memorable!
