Yesterday, the team ventured to The Loomis Chaffee School after a quick post-class turnaround!
The three doubles teams soon settled into long, evenly matched rallies, bouncing back and forth with their opponents. In the end, Chloe Schiff and Blake Coleman came out on top, seizing a well-fought win at first doubles.
Chloe continued to play with confidence and poise at first singles, winning a close first set then quickly delivering a second set win with strong and tightly placed baseline play. Blake, too, built on her doubles success, battling through a hard-fought first singles set before breezing through the next.
As daylight petered out, Travis Gerst and Grace Lodge launched into thrilling tiebreakers, and the team huddled together to watch in anticipation. Grace, making an impressive comeback after losing her first set, won her tiebreaker by a two-point margin, responding with relentless returns and sending the ball deep with characteristic slices. Though Travis ultimately lost a close tiebreaker after another second-set comeback, she used pace changes to her advantage and played with balance and careful intention.
The team came up just shy of victory but filled the van ride home with laughter, storytelling, and, as usual, infectious joy.
