Deerfield’s girls varsity tennis squad notched the first win of the 2026 campaign on Wednesday, earning a gritty win over Westminster. The weather was sunny and cool, but the wind abated at last for this contest.
The girls took some time to settle in, but found their footing and pulled away when it mattered.
The first doubles pair, Jeanne Mei Larouche and Chloe Schiff, found rhythm and opened up a lead they’d never give back after the first changeover. Winning volleys, big first serves, and strategic movement helped them notch Deerfield’s first point of the day. Heading into the singles phase, DA was down 1–2.
Singles flipped the match on its head. Deerfield swept all six courts with a mix of composure, grit, and smart point construction. Blake Coleman delivered the day’s signature performance, battling back from a set down to take a three-set comeback win with poise under pressure. Lucia Kinder earned her first career singles victory, playing with clarity and confidence from the opening games. Jeanne Mei brought a steady, cerebral approach to her court, dictating play with patience and precision. Chloe Schiff leaned on a dominant first serve and a clear tactical plan, controlling the tempo throughout. Chloe Hernandez refused to yield in a fiercely contested second set, raising her level when the match tightened. Grace Lodge rounded out the sweep with steady play and impressive endurance, staying composed deep into long rallies to close the door.
