Deerfield’s girls varsity tennis team hit the road to take on Taft over the weekend. The weather was sunny with strong winds. The match got off to an exciting start, with all three doubles matches featuring lead changes throughout. Deerfield’s number one doubles pair, Chloe Schiff and Jeanne Mei Larouche, came from behind twice and ultimately sealed the win at 9–7. At third doubles, Chloe Hernandez and Grace Lodge won a marathon match with a 10–8 tiebreaker.
Singles play delivered more intrigue, with back-and-forth contests all over the ladder. Chloe Schiff continued her undefeated campaign at first singles with a decisive win. Grace Lodge added Deerfield’s other singles win at the sixth spot with a gritty victory. In the end, DA fell one point short to a resilient Taft squad. The group will be back on the courts at home with visiting Suffield on Wednesday.
