Playing indoors on the cool, windy Wednesday, many different players got to showcase their abilities during the contest. Dima Kasumov and Jay Chen teamed up at #1 doubles; up 6-2, errors creeped in and they were forced to battle for a 9-7 victory. Juhas and Berg, teaming up at #2 this week, remain nearly perfect on the season, dropping just one game en route to their win. Juniors Jack Webb and Spencer Trees paired up at #3, winning convincingly without losing a game. In exhibition, John Rousou and Ted Freedman had a tight beginning to their proset but pulled away in the second half for an 8-5 victory.
The Doors proceeded to win in straight sets on each singles court, with the exception of #1 Tai Feng who was up a set and on serve before his match was called. Jay Chen played one of his cleanest matches at #2, dominating from both the baseline and the net. Playing at #3, Charlie Juhas had to contend with an aggressive opponent but was able to take control of the points during his 6-3, 6-3 win.
#4 Jack Webb, #5 Anderson Berg, and #6 Russell Fan rounded out the team’s lineup. All three players, new to varsity this year, played confident tennis and used just the right amount of patience and offense in their wins. John Rousou, playing exhibition singles, lost only one game as he cruised to victory; #8 Ted Freedman was entrenched in battle as his match was called off.
The team will get to rest and recover this weekend, and will next face Westminster in Simsbury, CT on Wednesday, April 29. After that match, it’s a few weeks with a packed schedule as the team rounds out the season.
