DAJVST had an exciting win against Bement in our second meet of the season! Having shaken off our first-meet jitters, we were more confident and collected both in and out of the pool. From our starts and turns to our cheers, we looked like seasoned pros. Let’s celebrate some of our favorite swims of the meet! Deerfield started the meet off on the right foot with consecutive first-place finishes in the first three events. Melody Zhao, Julie Yan, Jack Schwarting, and Steve Kilroy took first in the 200 yard Medley Relay, followed immediately by Matthew Susanto’s first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle. Avery Fillio also had a suspenseful 200 yard freestyle swim, finishing strong to out-touch her Bement competition in lane 5. Julie Yan then took first place in the 100 yard IM. Julie demonstrated her true grit later in the meet, though, when she had to swim a full 500 yard freestyle without her goggles! Jack had a fabulous day, taking home two first place finishes in individual events, one in the 100 yard freestyle and the other in the 100 yard backstroke. In the final event of the meet, the 400 yard Freestyle Relay, Jack came from behind, dramatically overtaking a Bement swimmer in the last moments of the race, landing Deerfield their last first place finish by only half a second. Joshua Graham, Fiona Cott, and Rowan Muzzy were in their finest form, wowing spectators with their picture-perfect dives. We had a blast swimming against Bement and are excited to face off against Eagle Hill and Bancroft this Saturday, 11am.
