Deerfield Girls Hockey took on a good New Hampton squad on Friday night at home, and, despite not playing our best game, came away with a 2-1 win. It was a physical game with lots of penalties, which made it hard to generate momentum, but the team showed lots of grit down the stretch. We opened the scoring on the penalty kill, with Chloe Cleaves ’26 making a beautiful pass across to Sophie Frost ’26, who quickly fired the puck in. New Hampton was able to tie the score, but we found the winner in the third period when Emily Cumming ’29 sent the puck up to Alessandra Picard ’29. AP drove hard to the net, and while the initial shot was stopped, Erin Dunne ’28 crashed the net hard and poked it in. Ana Makrogiannis ’27 was strong in goal, and Dunne earned the hard hat for her attitude on the bench and grit on the ice. It’s a quick turnaround before we take on Taft on the road on Saturday afternoon. Many thanks to the parents for providing Chipotle after the game!
