The Deerfield Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey team tied Cushing Academy 1-1 on Friday night. Cushing scored the first goal on a power play in the 2nd period. Deerfield responded in the 3rd period to tie the game with about ten minutes left. Alex Strug ’28 notched the Big Green’s tally off an assist from Colton Simas ’28. With the teams deadlocked, the game went to overtime. There, Lukas Machan ’26 tipped a point shot that found its way into the Cushing net. Deerfield celebrated, the teams lined up for the post-game handshake, and then the refs overturned the goal, claiming Machan touched the puck with a high stick. Each team returned to their benches to finish overtime, and since neither team could score again, they left the ice tied. Elliott Lennon ’26 stopped 52 of the 53 shots he faced. The Big Green will be back in action at home tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Trinity Pawling.
