Event Details

JV Hockey beat Salisbury, 4-3, in an overtime shootout win. Deerfield came out strong in the first period and established the forecheck. As a result, the points were open and our defense did a terrific job putting shots on net. Cooper Brozek ‘26, assisted by Jackson Sheehy ‘29 and Jackson Guy ‘27 opened the scoring with a shot from the point that found the back of the net just inside the far post. Playing with only four defenseman, Deerfield had to fight through some fatigue and Salisbury tied the game at the end of the second period, just before the break. Salisbury scored with just over five minutes remaining in the game to go up 2 to 1. With time ticking down, Deerfield pulled the goalie and Cooper Brozek ‘26 scored the tying goal with 1:06 left in the game. Assisted once again by Jackson Guy ‘27 as well as Cooper Lawson ‘26, Brozek’s goal found the same spot as his first one. The overtime was a close fought affair, with neither team scoring. The teams then went to a shootout, with each team getting five chances. Jackson Sheehy scored for Deerfield before a Salisbury player tied it up at 3 by the end of the shootout. Ryan Stenzler ‘27 and the Salisbury goalie were outstanding, with each goalie stopping four breakaways in the shootout. We then played a sudden death shootout. Cooper Lawson went first and shot one off the post and into the net for Deerfield to take the lead. The game then came down to one final breakaway for Salisbury and Ryan Stenzler once again stopped the shot, giving Deerfield the victory. Every player played a vital role throughout the game, and they should be proud of their effort and commitment, as they outshot the Salisbury team 40 to 16. Many thanks to Salisbury for being gracious hosts. Both teams played hard and with respect for the game, resulting only in one penalty for each team.
