Deerfield hit the road on Saturday for a tri-match against host Milton and Greenwich Academy, emerging with a pair of 2-0 victories.
Deerfield came out a little bit low energy off the bus against Milton but worked their way into the match and started to execute on hits from Evelyn Kunde ‘26 and Annie Coody ‘29 along with good blocking from Charlotte Coody ‘26, Emerson Lewis ‘28, Harmoni Dobbins ‘26, and Sophie Kamil ‘26. DA took the first set 25-15.
In the second set, Deerfield’s defense stepped up, led by Zoe Galaburda ‘26 and Zora Fenton ‘27 and the Big Green won the set and match, 25-11.
After a break to hydrate and refuel, Deerfield faced off against Greenwich Academy. Deerfield looked in control of the set until the Gators used good serving and some ill-timed passing errors from DA to tighten up the score. A block from Dobbins allowed Deerfield to take the first set, 25-23.
In the second frame, strong blocking from Lewis and Dobbins pushed the Big Green out to a lead, but Greenwich Academy again brought tough serving to keep things tight before Deerfield was able to take the set and the match, 25-19.
Thanks to Milton for hosting and to Greenwich Academy for making the long trip.
Deerfield continues as road warriors on Wednesday with a shorter drive to face Williston Northampton. First serve is at 3pm.
