The girls’ thirds volleyball team lost to Suffield in straight sets on Saturday afternoon. In their first game of the season, it was clear that there were nerves at work, and it took time for the players to settle into their positions and roles on the court. Suffield had several strong servers and despite some excellent receiving by back-row players, Deerfield had difficulty keeping the ball in play. Despite this, the team showed significant improvement over the course of the game. Deerfield scored more points in each consecutive set, and their strongest performance came in the last set when they lost 18-25. The gym was absolutely packed with fans for the game. Students from all grades and parents didn’t let up their support of the team until the very end, and it was clear that each player fed off that positive energy. Next, the girls will travel to NMH on this Wednesday.
