On Saturday, September 27th, the boys junior B footballers continued their road swing with the first of two games this season against Suffield Academy. Game time was 2:30 pm on the artificial turf under a blazing, unseasonably warm sun. Led by a hat trick from co-captain Jack Keller ’26 (5 goals on the season), Deerfield overcame a sluggish 1st half to win 5-2 and raise their record to 3W 1D 0L on the season.
Deerfield got off to a quick start, with Keller finding the back of the net early in the 3rd minute to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead. Keller added the second of his three goals in the 16th minute to increase the lead to 2-0, but Deerfield were neutralized for the rest of the half and the score remained the same at half-time. The 2nd half got off to a similarly quick start when Alastair Ylvisaker ’28 scored his 4th goal of the season in the 42nd minute to finally give Deerfield some breathing room. Hunter Henderson ’27 increased the lead to 4 in the 49th minute with his first career goal and Keller capped the Deerfield scoring with his final goal in the 57th minute. The lead was secure at that point, but that didn’t stop Suffield from continuing to press forward. They got a goal back in the 58th minute, immediately after Keller’s last goal, and added a controversial one in the 69th minute for the final 5-2 margin.
Quad squad will return to the lower fields on Wednesday, October 1st, with a home match against the Eagle Hill School @3 pm.
