Soccer (Boys): Junior A vs. Loomis Chaffee School (09/24/25 3:30 PM)

Event Details

The scoreboard did not tell the story of Deerfield’s impressive performance down in Windsor, Connecticut, along the banks of the Connecticut River on an overcast afternoon on Wednesday. Each season, Loomis served as a great rival for the Junior A squad, as they always field a strong club and are the only school Deerfield plays twice. From the first whistle, our offense was moving the ball extremely well, operating as a unit, and giving itself lots of chances. Coaches stopped counting our shots on goal when they reached 15, but the soccer gods and two skilled Pelicans keepers conspired to keep a clean sheet. Meanwhile, Deerfield’s keeper, Leos Jollon ’29, had little to do as his defense put relentless pressure on Loomis’s offense, keeping the ball out of our half and forestalling any shots. Jasper Gruhl ’28 at holding midfield made good decision after good decision and had equally reliable help at his wings from fullbacks Joaquim Calvacante ’26, Nico Idehen ’29, Charlie Juhas ’29, and Justin Treyz ’29. But credit goes to every member of a defense that has yet to be scored on this season. On our calendar, we have circled our November 5 rematch against Loomis, and tomorrow we get to work prepping for Saturday, the first Thirds’ trip to Kent in at least a decade.
