JV Field Hockey played a scrappy, fast-paced, and competitive game today in our season opener at home against Berkshire. Every player had a fire in her belly this afternoon, a sizzling spirit catalyzed by our six seniors Campbell Ardrey, Cece Cramer, Ellora Devitre, Rose Manning, Audrey Steffensen, and Ella Waag. This intensity earned us the first goal of the game: Liv Blecher ‘28 shoveling a pass from Rose Manning past the Berkshire goalie late in the second quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter, Berkshire answered with a goal of their own. Cece Salyer ‘28, Sabrina Schulhof ‘29, Stella Goldsmith ‘29, and Neva Navab ‘27 all played their first ever field hockey game today! Each found success on the field all while navigating new rules, new skills, and new positions. Job well done to them! Elan Bonham ‘27 also deserves a shout-out for keeping us in the game with a number of critical saves. Her performance is made even more impressive by the fact that she suited up in the goalie pads for the first time ever a mere two weeks ago. While there is still a lot to learn this season, the effort put forward by both teams left players, coaches, and spectators with smiles on their faces. The final score was 1-1 – a nail-biting tie! We’re already looking forward to our next face-off, away at Pomfret, this Wednesday 9/17.
