Late on a rainy mid-week afternoon JV Field Hockey faced off with our South Deerfield neighbor Frontier. Despite the wet weather, our spirits were high, and we were able to score early in the game. Forward Willa Kaplan ‘26 popped one in the cage after some scrappy back and forth in the circle, putting us ahead in the first quarter. With that early lead, we may have become a little comfortable, waiting behind defenders rather than running onto the ball, allowing Frontier to best us in one-on-one contests, and not following steals. Back on our heels a bit, goalie Elan Bonham ‘27 made several amazing saves to keep us ahead at the half. In the second half of the game, we managed to control the field more effectively, taking the ball to the right side more decisively, and securing more chances to score. In the fourth quarter, forward Milana Shuman ‘28 scored our second goal of the game, this time off a confident attack built from fast, accurate passes and a fine finish in the circle. Notable performances today came from middie Piper Wilson ‘29 who helped control the midfield, left back Miriam Toschik ‘29 who was a reliable rock on defense, and captain Rose Manning ‘26 who led some beautiful breakaways. As ever, the entire team gave each other extraordinary support and cheered hard. It was a team win. On Saturday, we play Exeter at home, always a great game.
