Boys varsity tennis had another strong showing at their first away match of the spring, defeating Belmont Hill 4-2. The win brings the team to a 2-0 record on the season.
Once again the Doors dominated doubles, with 8-1 wins on both the #2 and #3 courts to secure ever-so-important doubles point. Special shout out to sophomore Spencer Trees who, teaming up with co-captain Anthony Sparacio, clinched his first ever non-exhibition win on the #3 court!
With only 4 courts to play on, the top four singles players then took to battle. #3 Sparacio was the first to finish, winning his match and putting the Doors up 2-0 on the day. Despite their best efforts, #1 Gunter Weldon and #2 Ethan Li were bested by their very aggressive opponents. #4 Tai Feng stayed steady and closed out his match with a 7-5, 6-3 win to put the team up 3-2. At that time, both #5 Walker Naughton and #6 Dima Kasumov were deep into their matches; with big serves and groundstrokes, co-captain Naughton got the job done and clinched the win for the Doors with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory. Though he didn’t get to finish his match, sophomore Dima Kasumov- in his lineup debut as well- was serving huge and hitting massive forehands, finding himself up a set when the match was stopped.
The team will compete in the KITT Invitational at KO this weekend, April 5 and 6, followed by a dual match against KO at home on Wednesday, April 9 at 3pm. Go Doors!
