Tennis (Boys): Junior Varsity vs. Eaglebrook School (16/04/25 3:00 PM)

Event Details

On one of the windiest spring afternoons the Northeast could muster, the JV Boys Tennis team faced off against Eaglebrook for their second match of the season — and the first of two meetings with this friendly rival. With hats flying, tennis balls curving like they had minds of their own, and plenty of good-natured grit, the boys battled through gusts and groundstrokes alike.

Doubles kicked off the day, and teams showed heart from the first serve. At #1 doubles Ryan & Russell fought a tight match but came up short (6-8), while Harry & Jack at #2 also fell in a tiebreaker (7-8), and Ted & Luke picked up an impressive win at #3 (8-2). Over on the other courts, Finn & Zach, along with Carter & Kabir and Jasper & Matteo, played spirited sets, with all exhibition doubles teams walking away with an 8-5 victory.

Singles followed, and the wind didn’t let up one bit. Deerfield’s first point of the day came from Finn at #5 singles, who outlasted his opponent for a well-earned 8-5 win. That momentum carried right into Luke’s match at # 4 singles, where he delivered another strong performance, winning 8-1. These two wins put Deerfield on the board.

Meanwhile, Harry (No. 7) picked up an exhibition singles win, showing confidence in an 8-2 victory. Matteo, at #9 followed suit (8-6). For singles players #8 through #12, it was their first singles match! And though the final scores leaned toward Eaglebrook, the effort was undeniable. Carter (6-8), Jasper (4-8), Kabir (7-8), and Zach (6-8) all put in determined showings against their opponents, with Kabir especially pushing his match right to the edge before narrowly falling in a tiebreak-style finish.

While the final match score showed a 2-5 loss, the day was packed with firsts, fast-learning, and hard-fought points. The team is already looking ahead to their rematch with Eaglebrook, ready to turn the lessons of a windy afternoon into wins.
