On Wednesday, April 9, Deerfield Softball hit the road to face a tough Worcester team. Big Green came out swinging, putting a run on the board in the top of the first to set the tone early. Worcester proved to be a strong hitting team, consistently finding ways to put the ball in play despite Deerfield’s defensive efforts.
Still, the Deerfield bats stayed hot. A big moment in the third inning was when the team rallied to narrow the score to 6-4. Kiely Kinchla ‘28 was key in this comeback, smashing a shot deep to right field for an exciting inside the park home run. Another positive from the game was for Cori Scagel ‘25 who made her season debut in right field and came up big with several crucial catches that helped keep the team in the game.
Unfortunately, the game turned into a higher-scoring contest than expected, highlighting some areas for our team to continue improving. It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but the energy, effort, and fight were all present and this team is growing with every game.
