Deerfield Ultimate kicked off its season with a game against our near neighbor, Frontier.  Because not all Frontier players could make it to the start of the game, we loaned three returners to the team for the first half.  Both teams showed great Spirit of the Game, and there was even a halftime photoshoot featuring a Frontier player and our Student Body President, Billy Tang ’25.  First-half goals included assists and completions by Captain Sammy Sullivan ’25, Thomas Unkles ’25, Kayleen Tang, ’25, Jeanlukas Meza ’26, and Hazel Secker ’26.  It was Kayleen’s first career goal, and it was Hazel’s first goal against D.A., since they achieved that goal while on loan to (= playing for) Frontier.  The first half also featured Brandon Smith ‘26’s great defense, Thomas’s pretty perfect pulls, Jean’s epic roll goal (how did he get a grass stain on the TOP of his shoulder?), and Billy’s blocks. The score at our time cap half was 5-1 us.

Just before halftime, the rest of Frontier’s team pulled up, and they jumped in with fresh legs.  We went back and forth on goals for a bit, with Arvin Mou ’25, Thomas, Sammy and Billy assisting and completing goals.  Arvin was also an aggressive contributor on D.  Hazel threw a pretty pass to Jean to finish the time-capped game for an 8-3 season-opener win.
