JV Swim had an extremely successful meet against Eagle Hill and Bancroft on Saturday. While the walk from the bus to the pool was cold and icy, our fiery spirits kept us warm, fueling not only our first win of the season, but also numerous personal bests from new and veteran swimmers alike. After working on safe starts all week in practice, we were thrilled by our first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, swum by Melody Zhao, Clark Hess, Kenan Ozada, and Eloise Forrest. Also worth mentioning are the first-place finishes of Yong Ding, Melody Zhao, Julie Yan, and Clark Hess in their respective individual races. Jazmine Wilson Bigornia had an incredible swim in the 500-yard freestyle, beating her Deerfield best time by nearly a full minute! Her smile on deck after the race was totally infectious – we are so proud of her. Other exciting achievements include Josh Cole swimming his first sub-30-second 50-yard freestyle and Julie Yan swimming her first 100-yard butterfly at Deerfield (and placing first in it!). Our newest swimmers Sara Wang, Olivia Minn, and Alayna Cardoso also deserve a shout-out for their consistent improvement and willingness to swim new events each meet! The DAJVST had a lot of fun competing against Eagle Hill and Bancroft, as we were three well-matched teams. We hope to have a similarly competitive meet after the long weekend, Wednesday 2/12, at NMH.
