Boys JV Hockey vs. Taft
The Boys JV hockey team took to the road again on Saturday travelling to Watertown Connecticut to take on the Rhinos of Taft School. Taft is always a solid team, so the Big Green knew we had to show up prepared to play. With a snowstorm impending the schools agreed to play the game an hour earlier so we could have a chance of beating the storm back to Deerfield post-game.
The first period started with Taft gaining an early advantage pressuring our defense and creating some very good scoring opportunities early into the game. Goalie Drake Esquer was up to the task keeping the host off the score board and enabling his own team to shake off the bus legs and begin to keep a better pace against the Taft squad. Drake would eventually end up with a shutout with solid play throughout the game.
Today, the line of Cole Rorick, Cooper Brozak, and Blake Donnellan got the scoring done to secure the road win. Blake scored twice in the game with assists coming on both goals from his two linemates. Brooks Simonds would score for the Big Green as well to account for all three goals in the 3-0 win.
The first period ended with a 2-0 lead for Deerfield. That lead stayed through the second and after the ice cut Deerfield manage to kill off two penalties and get back to even strength. From there the team resumed their pressure in the Taft defensive end and would eventually pad their lead scoring a third goal.
Overall this was a solid win for the Deerfield team. Down the stretch this team is playing their best team defense and doing their best to reduce penalty minutes while staying aggressive in the offensive zone. A week of practice lies ahead as the team prepares for their next game this coming Saturday against Williston.
