Hockey (Boys): Varsity vs. Avon Old Farms (12/14/25 2:00 PM)

Event Details

The Deerfield Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey team lost to Avon on Sunday 6-1. The Big Green came out well in the first, carrying the play in the opening minutes of the 1st period. However, Avon got on the board first when one of their forwards deflected a point shot. Then, just minutes later, Avon scored again on the power play. In the second, it was all Avon, as Deerfield’s injury- and illness-depleted roster struggled to keep up with a deep Avon bench. The Winged Beavers would score three more in that second frame, looking like they’d head into the intermission with a 5-0 lead. That was until Alex Strug ’28 came barreling in on a forecheck, separating his man from the puck and dishing it to Lukas Machan ’26. Machan fired a shot on goal, which Strug rebounded and stuffed into the open net. The 3rd period was evenly played with Avon adding one additional goal. Elliott Lennon ’26 stood on his head, despite the score, stopping a number of grade A chances from this strong Avon team. Deerfield’s boys’ team is off this upcoming Wednesday, not playing again until the 60th Annual Flood-Marr Tournament. They’ll open this year against Nobles, starting at 1:00 p.m. at Milton on Friday, December 19.
