We finished an outstanding season with a 1-1 tie vs Choate at home on Choate Day. The boys were pumped and focused and completely outplayed Choate. They deserved the win, found many chances, earned a handball in the box which the ref didn’t see, and unfortunately could not finish a winner. Rabi Diallo (29) opened the scoring in the first half when he pounced on a loose ball after a corner kick and punched it in from 8 yards. Not long after, Choate sent a long throw into the box and flicked it into our goal. It was a well-earned goal on a well-practiced play. Keeper Zach England (29) kept the score tied with a brilliant save in close which required him to get big and block a certain goal with his body. In the second half with the score 1-1, we lived in Choate’s half and played with intensity. When the final whistle blew, our boys were disappointed, and we had to muster the pride to make the final feelings of this tremendous season upbeat. They did just that in our final huddle. We finished with a record of 11-2-4, matching the most wins by any team in the last decade and the highest goal differential in that time. We coaches are extremely proud of this group which, time and again, snapped into shape as we navigated jubilation and disappointment. We relied on the steady leadership of our three senior captains, Jack Wagner (26), Oscar Sanford (26), and Victor Kibuuka, (26) as well as four other senior leaders Bryan Gianvecchio (26), Tommy Govi (26), Tai Feng (26), and Nick Smiarowski (26). We are so thankful for the huge contributions these seven players made to Deerfield soccer. We play an emotional game and we needed all the boys’ energy and mutual support to keep pushing forward. Best of all, we had so much fun together and made lots of memories.
