Soccer (Boys): Junior A vs. Williston (11/01/25 3:00 PM)

Event Details

Thirds’ win streak came to an end on Saturday at home in a loss to Williston’s JV1 team. Deerfield got on the board first when forward Howard Jin got behind the keeper to shepherd the ball into the net in the sixteenth minute. Our lockdown defense, anchored by captains Magnus Selvig ’26 and Rich Zhou ’26 and supported by a couple of breakout rookies—Charlie Juhas ’29 and Justin Treyz ’29—at fullback, kept Williston from scoring the equalizer until the final minute of the first half. Deerfield retook the lead at 51′ when right wing Jose Fernandez Zambrano sent a great cross in that found striker Cole Higgins, who notched his 24th goal of the season. The Wildcats would answer one minute later on a rebound after a corner, and capitalized on another corner at 59′ to take the lead. Keeper Leos Jollos ’29 put on a fine performance concealed by the final scoreline. The fourth Williston goal came on what Deerfield players acknowledged as an “absolute banger” to the top right corner from outside the 18-yard box, which no high school goalie could have stopped. While DA would have loved a win today to testify to the high level at which this team has played this season, they put on a performance they should be proud of and now look to win out with next week’s rematch against Loomis and big concluding match against Choate.
