Hosting their first home game in nearly a month, Deerfield faced Hotchkiss on Wednesday with Deerfield earning a 3-0 victory.
Deerfield’s fans showed up from the beginning and only built throughout the match, a pattern that was mirrored by the play on the court. Harmoni Dobbins ‘26 opened the match with a great hit from the middle, one of her 9 kills on the day. Good passing from Zoe Galaburda ‘26, Zora Fenton ‘27, and Aila Zeitlin ‘29 let setter Annie Coody ‘29 move the ball around well and allowed Deerfield to win the first set, 25-19.
The 2nd set had more of the same, with strong hitting and blocking from Sophie Kamil ‘26 in the middle. Evelyn Kunde ‘26 had a standout performance with 4 aces and 17 kills and Deerfield took the set 25-14.
The crowd was in full force by the 3rd set and hitters Travis Gerst ‘26 and Hayden Cwiertnia ‘29 got to show their skills to go with blocks from Dobbins and Kamil and continued strong hitting from Kunde as the Big Green took the set and match, 25-17.
Thank you to Hotchkiss for making the long trip and a big shout out to the Deerfield fans for their fantastic, positive support.
Next up, Deerfield hosts Exeter over Family Weekend with first serve scheduled for 3pm on Saturday in the Barn.
