Hosting Exeter on a beautiful Saturday of Fall Family weekend, Deerfield emerged with a 3-1 victory over the Big Red.
With lots of family supporters in the stands, Deerfield had good serving throughout the afternoon, highlighted by long service runs from Charlotte Coody ‘26 and Zora Fenton ‘27. Exeter ran a strong attack from the middle and outside that had them take a lead in the first set, but Deerfield’s consistent attacks and blocking allowed them to eventually pull out the first set, 25-22.
In the second set, Deerfield’s receive and defense (led by Zoe Galaburda ‘26) stepped up and allowed the Big Green to run strong attacks in the middle and outside from Evelyn Kunde ‘26, Harmoni Dobbins ‘26, Sophie Kamil ‘26, and Annie Coody ‘29. Hayden Cwiertnia ‘29 got the last point to close out the set, 25-17.
In the 3rd set, Exeter’s good attacks and serves forced too many errors from Deerfield as the Big Red took the set, 17-25.
Deerfield responded in the 4th set with a strong performance from the beginning as setters Emerson Lewis ‘28 and Charlotte Coody effectively used their hitting options to score points against a scrappy Exeter defense. The final score was 25-17.
Thanks to Exeter for making the trip and for a good afternoon of volleyball .
After a couple of days off from classes, Deerfield has a big match on Wednesday against defending Class A champions King School. First serve is at 4:30pm in the Barn.
